Adding Billing Codes
Efficient management of billing codes is essential in the healthcare billing process. The Claims app simplifies this task by allowing users to add, manage, and utilize billing codes directly within the app. Whether adding a code during the claim submission process or through the app's configuration settings, the process is designed to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Adding Billing Codes During Claim Submission
- During Claim Submission: Users have the option to add billing codes as part of the claim submission process. This integration streamlines the addition of necessary codes without leaving the claims workflow.
Adding Billing Codes via Configuration
For a more structured management of billing codes:
- Access the Claims App: Go to the Claims app within Popularis and navigate to the "Configuration" dropdown.
- Select Codes: Choose the "Codes" option from the menu. This section is dedicated to the management of billing codes.
- Add a Billing Code: Click on "Add Billing Code" to start creating a new code template. Templates maximize efficiency by allowing for the reuse of commonly used codes.
Creating a Code Template
- Name the Template: Give your code template a descriptive name to easily identify its purpose or the specific services it covers.
- Search ICD-10 Codes: Look up the necessary ICD-10 codes for the service. Multiple codes can be selected, and a manual override option is available if necessary.
- Enter the Billing Code: Input the billing code, which could be either a Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) code or a Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) code.
- Specify Charge Amount: Add the charge amount in USD for the service associated with the billing code.
- Add Modifiers: There are two slots available for modifiers that may be needed to accurately describe the service provided.
- Save the Template: Once all information is entered, save the template for future use.
Utilizing Billing Code Templates
- Adding Codes to Service Lines: When sending a claim, simply select one or many billing code cards from your templates to add them to the service line. This process ensures that all relevant billing information is accurately and efficiently included in each claim.
Editing or Deleting Codes
- Code Cards: Similar to provider information, each billing code has an associated card within the "Codes" section. You can easily edit or delete codes by selecting the appropriate option on the card.
Best Practices
- Consistent Review: Regularly review your billing code templates to ensure they are up-to-date with the latest coding standards and guidelines.
- Accurate Information: Ensure the accuracy of all codes, modifiers, and charge amounts to prevent delays or rejections of claims.
